(like put dock on right, etc.) and defaults to a different set. Restarting
brings us back to normal. Sometimes the dock flits in and out, before
disappearing for good. Wnen it is gone, she can't get to the trash.

Trash the dock prefs file. Also, make sure you don't have 'automatically hide' on. Myself I always set it to that though, it's nice not having the dock in the way.
