This wouldn't happen to be an AppleVision 1710 or AV, would it? With those
things, you have to insert the little ADB dongle that dangles (as dongles
are wont to do) off the connector into your ADB port, & place your normal
ADB cord into the 1 on the side of the 1710. Those monitors use ADB to
communicate resolution info with the display circuitry.

It is an Apple Studio 17" display - the one with "legs". I had to search through MacTracker to find a picture that matched.
I only had a few minutes to look at his setup and the monitor resolution was the most obvious glitch. I'll need to spend some more time with it. Someone had installed a USB/FW PCI card for his Compact Flash card reader. I'd love to get him a larger drive and reinstall OS to see what that would do.
