Hello,
I was looking at ebay software for Macs yesterday, using my G3-mt computer with OS10.2.8 and I spotted an item for sale that interested me. It is listed as Mac OSX Professional Office Suite Software Package nearly identical to Microsoft's Office Suite. It features Word Processor, spreadsheet, HTML editor, and presentation programs. It includes Word, Excel, Powerpoint and others. It was developed by Sun Microsystems and sells for $14.99!
This is not an item to bid on. It sells for that price and there are a lot of them. Has anyone heard of this?
This would have to be OpenOffice <http://www.openoffice.org>, which was originally developed at Sun and is still sold by them under the name Star Office.
It does NOT include Word, Excel Powerpoint and others but is compatible with them.
OpenOffice currently only runs under X-windows in OS X, a OS9 version was never made.
Without the link (I couldn't find it listed as that on E-bay) I can only speculate that this is one of the many Open source distributions of this package.
If you have OS X 10.3, X-windows is included, and the thing is downloadable for free from here: <http://porting.openoffice.org/mac/ooo-osx_downloads.html>
Their recommended download (ooo103darwingm.dmg) is a native Mac installer, but the other file in the download area (OOo_1.1.0_031006_MacOSX_install_en.tar.gz) is an X-windows installer for the current 1.1 version, which is quite nice.
It does require a bit of knowledge, but the OSX page does give you a fair bit of information.
