Hi
Some time ago I had a problem with a stubborn B&W G3 which refused to boot into OS 9 (OS X worked, but slowly).
I finally figured it out: the Firewire module was broken. I removed it and the machine booted happily.

Bad FireWire ports on the B&W G3 is a common problem. I had to replace mine with an Adaptec FireWire card. On the Apple discussion list there are over 100 post of bad FireWire in the B&W G3.
