>Can I get some opinions on why the"Mac edition" of the Radeon 32MB video >PCI card is thought to be superior to the Radeon 7000 f/ Mac?
The Mac Edition has DVI and S-Video. The PC Edition doesn not have the DVI or S-Video components "stuffed", altough it would be a relatively east job to add these connectors. Lots of precision soldering, assuming one is skilled in that art. There exist OEM Radeon 7000s for PCs which have DVI and no SVGA, and perhaps other unusual combinations of connectors. All cards, of whatever version, which I have seen have all used the same "raw" card and LSI, although the serial EPROM may be smaller in capacity on the PC editions. However, over a half-dozen PC Edition Radeon 7000s I bought while they were on various retail rebate programs, all have had full-sized EPROMs, and all were FLASHable using the well documented PC-based FLASHing utility. In no case did I have to use the otional firmware (the ones designed either for the slow video processor or the slow DDR RAM). -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
