Hello again Lee "Can I create the database using filemaker pro 6 or is there some method you have to use using mysql?"
To tell the truth I don't know, but I don't think you can, Filemaker Pro is a bespoke Java based Database system, somewhat akin to Microsofts Access. MySQL is primarily a command line data solution (although you can get GUI Frontends for it for a variety of OS' like MySQL-Front and PHPMyAdmin) I think it's a good idea to get familiar with MySQL, the tutorial (Chapter 3) in the MySQL Manual, is short but very thorough and I'd recommend reading it. "The reason I ask is that in the installation of OSCommerce it asks for the host name or the IP address of the database as well as Database name and password and username." In your case your database server is hosted locally so the hostname will be localhost. This option enables you to host the database elsewhere, or have a redundant mirrored backup of the database on another machine so that if your Data Server goes down you can quickly change the config file to the new host (the ip address or DNS name of the backup machine) and the system will continue to run.
