I dunno about the first gen iMac keyboards and the B&W conflict...it sounds as if it's a USB firmware or keyboard chipset issue.

However, as a point of interest, I currently have my old B&W OEM keyboard on loan to my cousin, who happily uses it to type reports on her compaq notebook. After the compaq keyboard failed (horrible liquid beverage incident), then finding the price for a replacement, she decided to just bum one. Being the only USB keyboard I had (and lack of PS/2 ports on the notebook), I thought we'd give it a try :)

Last I saw her, she was still banging away with it at home, and using the replaced built in keyboard at school :) She actually prefers the Mac keyboard.

Score one for standardized hardware!
