Hi Kathi,
Basically, I have a cable modem plugged into a Linksys, 1-port router which is, in turn daisy-chained into 3 Linksys 5-port switches. (And yes... there are a lot of cables! :-> )
I use static IP addresses for all the computers... using DHCP is easier to set up, but I found I had too many little glitches to deal with using DHCP.
The router is set to "Obtain IP address automatically", LAN IP address 192.168.1.1, Subnet 255.255.255.0 and DHCP was Disabled.
Ethernet TCP/IP settings for the Macs and wintel boxes are similar...
Each machine has a host name and IP address in the form 192.168.1.xxx where xxx is different for each machine. (100,101,102, etc...)
Subnet mask is 255.255.255.0
Router address is 192.168.1.1 <- I think this was the default for Linksys.
Then you should have 2 DNS Server addresses supplied by your ISP provider.
This all took a little time to set up for the 7 (sometimes 8) machines on the network, but it works flawlessly.

Hi, Amanda...
I sure would be interested in how you set up your network. I also have 2
G3's running 9.1 and 9.2 and a W98 pc. I presently have one of my G3's
hooked up to a cable modem, and would love to be able to share the cable
access with the other G3 and W98 pc. I should mention that I have Linksys
router also. Any help or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks, Kathi <///><
