>From reviews I've seen, whilst the 800MHZ uses a 7450 G4 and is faster than your 350MHZ G4, the performance increase is not as much as expected, compared with slower G4's due to the lack of Cache. You would expect an 800MHz G4 to perform twice as fast as a 400MHz, but sometimes it would only be a 160 - 170% increase over say a 400MHz G4, not he expected 200%. If you run a G4 7450 processor (used in the 800MHz QS) at the same speed clock speed as the G4 7400/7410, the 7450 is generally slower at completing tasks than it's predecessors. Think it also depends what you are using your G4 for. Try http://www.barefeats.com/G4733.htmsites as this gives a good comparison between different G4's and entions the short comings of the G4 800MHz.
>From a previous poster who put a QS 933 chip in a 533 DA, you need extra voltage. The DA uses 133MHz RAM, wheras your AGP and Gigabit range use 100MHz RAM. I don't know if you can just drop a 733 DA into your AGP, so hopefully Charles, Mary et al will be able to advise you better. Therefore your best bet is to get a Sonnet/PowerLogic upgrade for your processor. Last year I bought a Sonnet 1G CPU card and a Radion video card with dual display support. I figure this upgrade will allow me to stay reasonably close to the 'cutting edge'. I'm happy with this setup. Jim -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
