Put a new hard drive in my daughter's iMac today. Figured I should upgrade the 10 gig to put Jag on her machine.....
Well... I booted into the Jag disk and installed... no problem. Ran 18 or 20 updates... no problem.
Thot I better put Classic on for her old programs, etc. Help???
Boot from the 9.2 CD and the hard drive doesn't show up. Shows up fine otherwise.....
Sounds like you forgot to check the little box that says " install OS9 drivers" when you was setting up to install OSX
Actually, I didn't check it. It said 'Does not apply to Classic.'
It doesn't apply to Classic. Classic is running OS 9 within OS X. It is required to boot into OS 9. I've never installed OS 9 while running under OS X but I supposed it is possible. If OS X will recognize the OS on CD as a Classic OS to run then you might be able to launch the the OS 9 installer under OS X. Then again it might be Carbon so it will run directly on OS X.
Give it a try, double click on the installer on the CD. If it can't find a Classic environment then try selecting the CD in the System Preferences. If it still won't try dragging the System Folder from the CD over to the HD. If from there you can start up the installer then do a clean install.
If that doesn't work you are likely going to need to reformat the disk using the option for OS 9. You could use Carbon Copy Cloner to copy to your old HD then CC it back to the new drive after reformatting.
Never installed X before OS9 before...... Don't even use Classic any more.... :P
I have but I always select the OS 9 drivers.
