Hi my G4 DA did not come with the Mic input so I use a Griffin iMic to
get sound in and out. There are apps like Final Vinyl, Sound Studio and
BIAS Peak that are 2 track stereo recorders.
I don't know what output connectors are on the back of your minidisk
player, but I'm assuming left and right RCA phono sockets, so if yu
haven't doen so alreay, a trip to Tandy's/Radio shack et al is needed to
get a cables that converts 2 phonos to a single stereo 1/8" mini jack
plug.

Install one of the above mentioned programs (this is by no means a
restrictive list).
Simply connect the Minidisk player output to your G4 Mic input.
In Panther go into System Preferences and select the Sound option (Loud
speaker icon on right in the second row of hardware options.
Ensure that you Onboard sound option is selelcted for both input and
output, unless you have a USB ausio interface like my Griffin iMic, in
which case you select that instead of the onboard sound.
Select the Input option from the 3 options in the middle of the sound
page
Now alter the input volume control I normally have it about half way to
start. I think this is the master input recording level.
You can also set your output level too if you want.
Open you recording app, in the case of Sound Studio that I use, the
program opens a stereo input record level meter so you may need to delve
around to find the equivalent in what ever program you use. You may find
things under menu options like MIDI/Audio Configuration/Settings (trying
to guess what name manufacturers hide these things under).
Play your minidisk to get a level. You don't want it going over +6dB
(red) but it's OK to have it kicking into the red.
Just try recording a small part of the track and check your input levels
as some devices like my iMic apparently overide Sound Studios input
controls and rely on the Master input level that you set in your System
Preferences -> Sound -> Input option.

Hope this helps

Best Regards
Pete

Subject: AGP G4 Sound input to Mic

I'm trying to hook up a minidisc player to my AGP G4's mic input so I
can put some minidisc material on my Mac. I running OS X 10.3.3. So
far, I can't seem to do so. Any help here?

Thanks,

Bob
