that's definitely possible, and easy to do. also check the bottom of the board for traces, even if they aren't bare they can be a problem due to capacitance or when the coating gets scratched or otherwise fails to insulate which isn't it's job any way, it just happens to also do that usually. also of course try booting off of a cdrom drive and try rebooting a couple of times and resetting the pram, there can be some odd corruptions of the pram sometimes. of course also check the memory and anything else socketed especially if it was unplugged ever and double check the power supply wiring, it's slightly possible to have it wrong and not let the smoke out, stranger things have happened. i assume you're using info at xlr8yourmac.com? a great resource. oh, and if you need fans i have some, power supply size used but excellent (i.e. i doubt they were used much if at all before i salvaged them, no dust inside the power supply) and some brand new small ones that are good for processors and/or drives.
