IF that fails it may be your gain is turned up to high on the Mic. Open System Preferences and go to Sound. Click on the 'Input taqb and pull the slider down until you saying 'test' in a normal voice moves the bar about halfway up. That may reduce any kickback you are getting. If it's better but still echos keep turning it down until you reach a point where you can be heard but get minimal echo. Possibly and unrelated point, but I found that on my G4 iMac you should never plug an audio/video device into the left most port (as you lean over the iMac - right most when looking at the back) as it leads to a lot of static interference on all audio. This port is likely designed for keyboard and mouse only and as it is the port that senses the keyboard input in the pre-boot sequence, it likely has other traffic on it that is garbage to all but HID devices or Apple keyboards.
