This is not probably not the solution for you, but I just wanted to show you, one of many ways that you can accomplish this task.

I have ripping Old Mix tapes, from my DJ Days, and also Ripping all my old 12" singles. I have a Numark Mixer, which I use as a Pre-amp. I run my tape deck, and my turntable to the Numark Mixer. I then run an audio out cable to the Audio input on my G4. I use CD Spin Doctor 2, to record the Music. Since most of my Mix tapes are 45 to 60 minutes in length, it usually creates a 455 MB AIFF file. I use Bias Peak to edit the AIFF file. I create tracks and I also use it filter out some of the pops. I plan to purchase Sound Soap in the future to make this task a little easier.

After I'm done editing the Music File, I save it as a Jam File. I use Roxio Jam to make a professional CD and then finally, I use Toast to burn it to CD. One of the nice things about Jam 6, is that I can burn the CD directly from Jam.

Good Luck on your project.

I have a quantity of older LPs that I want to rip into MP3s. I am
looking for advice on the cheapest way to get the audio into my Mac,
then convert them into MP3s. I have the following 2 Macs that I can use:

A close to stock beige G3 266 with the Wings av board (sound in and
out) running 9.2.1 and a Digital Audio 533 (bumped up to 933) running
10.2.8.

I am guessing the cheapest way to do this is to run my amp into the
beige (what app will capture the sound and record it to disk?) then use
the G4 to convert these to MP3s by transferring them via the network.
Is there a cheap way to get the analog input into the G4? Will iTunes
convert analog audio to MP3s?

I know this is very easy to do with Cds, but this is music from my
younger days and a lot of it is not available on CDs nor the iTunes
store.
