Jonathan,
I've had a 1, 2, and 3 gen iPod. I currently have a 40 GB iPod and use it daily. I think the 3rd gen iPods out do the others hands down. As an MP3 (or in my case AAC) player it beats other players' interfaces hands down.
I use mine with a Griffin iTalk to record my favorite radio talk shows when I'm not home. And I have a digital camera film reader for it (both items the iPod mini does not support) that I use when I travel.
I am waiting for them to mature even further. iSync has issues where it only puts a certain number of contacts on the iPod. Some other little quarks. Stay tuned...

Okay I'm very excited I just bought my first iPod online today and I can't wait for it to get here! just a thought though, how long does it usually take Apple to ship them off? On my order status it says that it will ship on or before July 23rd. I payed extra to have it shipped next business day air, via Fed-Ex But that only will happen once Apple ships the iPod off! does anyone else here have a 3G iPod? what are your thoughts on it? The only digital music players I've ever used before were a MiniDisk player, and a Dell Axim X5 pocket PC (which wasn't compatible with my mac so I sold it and bought the iPod)
Thanks,
Glenn
