I've had excellent results with both TDK -R and Verbatim "Digital Movie 
DVD-R". I've burned approximately 100 discs, so far, with not one 
coaster. I watch the sale papers, every Sunday, when Best Buy, Circuit 
City, etc. has had spindles of 25 for anywhere from $24.00 to $29.00.

The brands that didn't work for me were Memorex and Sony. I also 
learned my lesson with labeling as my standalone player would not play 
any disc that I had put a full label on. It will work fine with the 
little hub labels, though.
