You can do it easily with the Import Addresses AppleScript, which can be found in the Library->Scripts->Mail Scripts folder.

Thanks for the help. So far, however, all it does is select, at
random, a small number of contacts to import and duplicates many of these.
The process, such as it has been, is extremely slow.

I just remembered I fell over an app for doing this a month back, called 'Emailchemy'. It looks like it will convert pretty much anything to anything, including the 2 clients in question here. No link or anything, sorry - try a Google hunt.
