"Timo | thy |" ponders:
I see that OWC lists several upgrades for the G3 AIO
('Molar')...
How hard is it to get into the device? Is it as much a
pain as the
iMac? And do ALL of OWC's upgrades really work in the
Molar?
I'm considering purchasing a Molar...
-------
The AIO "Molar" is actually pretty easy to get into -
it has a slide-out tray in the back for the
motherboard and drives. It's kinda cramped in there,
though; if you try to cram too many upgrades into that
confined space then sufficient airflow for processor
cooling *WILL* be a concern.
I have a couple I'm currently putting back together,
and I'll probably make at least one of them a Classic
OS machine. If you're looking for a OS X machine I
wouldn't recommend a Beige G3; my experience is that
sometimes it will run OK on a Gossamer board and
sometimes it just WON'T. I've installed OS X (10.1
and 10.2) on three different Beiges with varying
results. My most hair-pulling experience was with an
AIO (Rev C board with Rage Pro video chip and Raytheon
VRM) and an OWC G4 550 ZIF. I was real happy with how
well my Beige MT ran OS X 10.1, though, so go figure....
