It's a case style designation. MDD = Mirror Drive Doors. Introduced in 
Aug 2002. It followed the Quicksilver models.  In 2003 they revised it 
to include Firewire 800, and the designation MDD FW800 was used. All 
models of the MDD series look the same externally.
