Here's the best place I've ever found to answer any DVD related question.

Your DVR-107 has the capability to burn both +/- and just read the specs for your set top player to see if it lists the + discs. Some players will even have all formats listed across the front of the player

For example:
(DVD+/-R, DVD+/-RW, VCD, MP3)

I just came from an Office Max store where they were selling 50 and 100-packs of DVD recordable disks. Some of them were labeled DVD-R and others DVD+R. I looked at the specs on the label of one of the packs (I forget which kind) and it had a warning that using this type of media might confuse some DVD players and result in blank screens. Worse, it said that if the DVD players were left in that confused condition for long enough, permanent damage to the device could result.

So, the question arises in my mind, why are such DVDs even sold? Who would want them? What's the difference between DVD-R and DVD+R anyway? What kind should I buy to burn video DVDs of my home movies to play on the DVD player in my TV set? (I have a new Pioneer DVR-107 in my G-4 733).

Somebody here recommended the following webpage that identifies good and bad DVD media, so I guess it's worth repeating: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm. Yet for all the good information there, there is no discussion of DVD-R vs DVD+R.

So now I guess I have to worry about not only the quality (manufacturer) of a blank DVD, but whether it's the -R or +R type. This is all getting kind of confusing. Any clarification appreciated.
