i installed os X on this machine (g3 266mhz tower) from a commercial cdrom (grey cd - says emac, mac os 10 install which i got from OWC) and now it can't see the hard drive when i start it up.

it didn't even look to me like the installer finished correctly
because i had to force it to reboot.

it walked me through reformatting the drive etc., then i noticed it later installing all these foreign language things on it.

was there a version of os x that was "bad"/didn't install right?

it didn't say i needed any firmware updates when it checked the machine.

is this a familiar problem?

thanks in advance again (and everyone that replied earlier)
