I hit up the ATTO techs again after my first query
asking if the UL2D/S would work in OS X basically
resulted in a flat, "No, it's not compatible and
won't work in OS X," (paraphrased, as I now noticed
the blurb in the email response prohibiting
unauthorized dissemination).

I asked for an answer based on real-world application
not standard company line "supported/unsupported" and
a different support tech responded this time. Here's
the breakdown of that answer:

- The UL2D/S will work in up to 10.2.8, utilizes the
Apple system driver
- For 10.2.8 the card needs upgraded to 1.6.4 firmware
- Firmware can only be loaded from OS 9
- Card is not"supported" in 10.3.x

Thanks for the good news about 10.2.8 and the bad news
about 10.3.

I'll just have to give it a try and see what happens.
