Hi all;

Are there any Applescript (or equivalent for OS X) wizards out there?

I have many many photographs that I'm organizing, and have a problem. For the first 2 years I was taking pictures, the file name format that the camera was using took the form month-date-photoID (no YEAR added on). So if I took photos 7-25-03 and 7-25-04, I can get duplicate names P07250001.jpg for both. I'd like to make P07250001-03 and -04.

I am now importing my photos into another dbase/organizer (iPhoto just doesn't cut it for me, anymore, although it was OK for a while) and I'd like to append the year (-02 or -03 or -04) to the existing filenames. Year coming from date modified, not created, since some are created 1904 due to a laptop export issue, but the date modified is correct. Unless there's a util somewhere that will let me change that date created stamp easily. I never touch the originals so the modified date is always correct.

If anyone cares, I'm switching over totally to ImageAXS Pro, which runs under Classic but is a lot better behaved than iPhoto for this large collection (10,000+ images) and has more useful search and other features. I"m printing under Classis anyway as my printer only has Classic drivers.

I'm getting the collection backed up onto an external drive shortly, and will then feel comfortable messing around once I have it archived elsewhere.

Thanks for thoughts! I don't care if the solution is under Classic or under X, just so long as it's functional.

Brian
