I don't know what version of Mac OS you are running but may be that they
have the servers configured for "Windows Authentication" (assuming that
your systems are joined to a domain) and don't have basic ftp
authentication configured.

Subject: OT Macs on Networks

Folks,

More and more I'm confronted with the problem of troubleshooting the
handful of Macs on the network at work. But I know nothing about
networks. A lot of the time, I think the problems have to do with the
server being configured somewhat exclusively for PCs.

For instance, right now, the network admin says that the Windows 2000
server is configured to allow FTP access (actually after I protested
when they tried to make it FrontPage access only). But for some reason,
FTP only works from the Windows machines on the network and not the
Macs. We tried Fetch, CuteFTP, FTP through Dreamweaver and get various,
"no directory"-type errors.

My suspicion is that the admins have configured some standard, Windows
setting that somehow blocks non-Windows OSes (or maybe I'm paranoid) --
but I don't even know enough to tell the admins where they should go to
find out how to fix this problem (and they're not moving too fast to
find out on their own).

Which brings me to my main question, is there a good listserv for this
type of problem? A listserv for lone Macs on Windows networks with
admins who don't know Macs?

Thanks in advance,

Anastasia
