I assume OSX recognizes it because the proper window shows up, and I can
drag programs onto the window. I can then run through the normal
procedure of copying the programs onto the disk.
I'm wondering if I need a later version of Toast because I just copied
Quicken 2004 and AppleWorks 6 onto a disk. When I tried to open the
disk, I got this note:
Item Quicken 2004 is used by Mac OS X and cannot be opened.

Many thanks to all for your many helpful suggestions. I found Toast 5.2.1 on my computer that was left by the former owner and that seems to have resolved the problems. I bought Toast 6 on ebay and that should work.
Also Andrew, I tried your idea of reburning and that worked.
Thanks again.
