It's driving me nuts having to change ownership and permissions for every file just as soon as its created. Is there a way to make these setting stick, or am I missing something.
Put the files in the Public folder of the user on the iMac, and

In practice you can do this for any folder. Files inherit the permissions of the enclosing folder, so files saved there be readable and writeable.
This list software really bites sometimes.
I couldn't post during the day since my webmail is not accepted by the list. And it won't accept posts with several URLs included.
=============== Here's comes that unix word cropping up again. Sorry guys.
Actually I read several places there is/was a bug in the unix-style permissions inheritance- some times when it should inherit folder permissions, it does not and set privileges for a user instead of world: see
<http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20031017053141796>
for one type of detailed fix (although I don't like it, for a workplace you'd need the cron to run every 5 min perhaps during the day), and
[google for "OS X permissions error thinking" and look for the 3rd or 4th link to an article written by the Thinking Reader people]. I can't post the URL. #$%$%$%
for an article about how this bug affects this guys software and their suggested fix (basically resetting the inheritance mode for all your shared points). The report in the forums he mentions doesn't seem to exist- Apple has deleted posts about bugs in the past. Or maybe it's just old.
The SharePoints software that Aaron mentions sounds like it works around the bug and is inexpensive, which are great features.
HTH.
