Thanx Philip, that was very enlightening. Thinking back, the cabling 
was probably very bad, with a long extension cable from the stereo to 
the then-stationary Mac. So maybe I unfairly accused the Mac's 
hardware. Sorry Apple!

But what about now? I have a 933 MHz G4 iBook, with no audio in. Can 
anybody recommend a USB-connected line-in digitizer?
