Got this from a newsgroup: 

Boot from a CD.
In the preferences folder inside the System Folder, find and drag
"Multi-User Prefs" to the trash.
Empty the trash.
Reboot of the hard drive.
Open File Sharing Control panel.
Type in new password.
Open the Multi-Users control panel.
Click "On" to turn on accounts.
Close the control panel.
Choose logout from the Special menu.
Log in using new password.

Can't say if it works but it's worth a try.
