Well, we've established with certainty, that there is in fact a variance.


My monitor, which DOES turn off, is in fact, also a Gateway EV700...apparently Apple used at least two distinct PS designs during production of the Beige series, and at least one of them did support turning off current to the auxiliary plug.

If this practice extended to other components, this would explain a LOT of the wide experiences with these systems: some will install OSX, some wont, some hardware works on some and not on others. (like the Sonnet Tempest Trio ATA/FW/USB controller), some can install 10.3 with Xpostfacto, some can't.
