Correction. On Apple's site, it says that you need to have an ATI Radeon with 16MB of VRAM. So the ATI Rage 128 based cards don't work.

From what I understand, it has more to do with missing OpenGL instructions in the older cards. Something about not being able to handle a number of pixels not a multiple of some number - something along those lines.

Apparently, that ability didn't manifest itself until the Radeon came out.
