What plug-ins do you have installed?

I am a very recent converter to iCab, and it turns out there were no plug-ins in my iCab Plug-ins folder. Only a Read-Me warning that some Plug-ins require more memory be assigned to iCab in the Finder.

iCab follows Apple's specs. So it looks first in its own plug-ins folder, then it looks within System Folder:Internet Plug-Ins.

So I checked my IE Plug-ins folder and found

- Default plug-in installed by IE
- 2 plug-ins installed by Mac OS 9.1
- 4 plug-ins installed by Photoshop
- 2 plug-ins installed by ViewPoint Media Player
- 1 plug-in installed by Real Player
- 1 plug-in installed by Flash Player

Is it safe to copy all these over to iCab?

No. MS vs The World. IE uses a different plug-in format. It's ok to copy Netscape, Moz, and Opera plug-ins, but not IE's.

Leave the iCab:Plug-ins folder as-is, with just that readme in it.

Take a look at the contents of System Folder:Internet Plug-Ins.

Mostly, the QuickTime plug-ins are all you really need. QT can even do older Flash, so you don't need the Real/Flash plug-ins unless a site balks. In general, wait for iCab to tell you that you need a plug-in to view a page, then go get it. Keeps the junque level down.

FWIW,
- Dan.
