I've been using an external U.S.Robotics modem with my AIO for months, but this morning the computer wouldn't dial out. (I'm stuck with dial-up in my area.)

When I go to OS X's Network Preference panel, the Modem and Printer ports are ghosted, an the computer wouldn't let me access them. Either the storm fired something, or I did some to to the software driving those ports.

Any ideas?

If the ports are dead, I plan on buying a USB modem to replace the serial modem. Will any USB modem due? Or do I need a modem which supports the Mac (OS X 10.2.8), or does OS X only support USB modem which use a certain brand of chips?

 - Ron.
