This occurred after a firmware update1.6.4 was applied to my ATTO UL2D SCSI card in 9.2.2, then I booted into OS X. OS X sees the card OK but still can't get it to see the drive. I have proven the card, cable, and drive to all be individually good but just not when used together. It seems like the OS X driver for the UL2D is wrong or not being loaded or something. The driver I have is ATTOExpressPCI.kext v. 1.1.0. Anybody know of another that works with this?
Anyway...when I pull the card I can boot into 9.2.2. An ATTO troubleshooting doc says to boot while holding Cmd-Shift-D to disable the card without physically removing it, then re-flash. This did not work. The drive made some weird noises and the boot locked. I have never heard of this key combo command and could not find validity of it on a net search. Anyone?
It's probably just a private keyboard command that the ATTO's driver checks for when it loads. An off switch, as it were. Kindof like how pressing ~ would tell the old Virtual extension to disable itself.
Well it certainly didn't work on the Beige. I was a bit concerned about the screeching sounds from the original 4 GB drive, too right before the boot freeze.
I need to get back to OS 9 to flash firmware to an earlier version but I'm kinda in a catch-22.
Try booting with nothing attached to the ATTO card?
Yep
Try renaming the ATTO driver, in OS 9, so it falls alphabetically elsewhere in the sequence. IOW, let some init crawl occur before it loads... To verify it's what causes the hang.
No. I would be afraid that it wouldn't find the driver at all if I did that. Hmmm... after looking I can't find anything in the OS 9.2.2 extensions that looks like a PCI SCSI controller driver or anything related to an ATTO controller??? IIRC, SCSI Manager 4.3 is supposed to take care of this. A system search comes up empty.
Was this not included in 9.2.2 maybe?
