true, but you want a metal grill for emi/rfi reasons. also it's not hard to file or sand away rough edges, and few worry about the aesthetics of the back of their computer which is rarely seen. of course some do. alternately someone could remove both grills and add a nice chromed fan grill which would provide the shielding and look really cool if done properly (it could always be painted to match the mac or to contrast with it as well). if you do cut the grill off the power supply, you should definitely file down the edges to avoid cuts when working on it and to enhance aesthetics, even if you won't be removing it often or looking at the back of the case much. there are many options if one is creative.
also, i don't know about the B&W G3, but on some macs there's an internal fan that's mounted a little bit away from the fan guard (about 1/2" iirc) and this gap can also increase turbulence. on the g4 i use i removed the bracket that held the fan spaced away from the grill and drilled mounting holes in the sheet metal around the grill (and just removed the bracket completely, it served no other purpose, it didn't even add strength to the case). i also put a piece of soft material between the fan and the metal, between these two fixes sound from that fan was drastically reduced, and cooling efficiency was increased which also lets the fan run slower as it's temperature controlled. i have no idea why the apple designers made it this way, but any complex design is bound to have a few silly mistakes. it's worth looking at how all the fans are mounted and providing them with vibration dampening. xlr8yourmac.com is an excellent resource for ideas like that. Do U.S. citizens deserve less than those of other countries? <http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article6505.htm> In many states citizens still have the option of using a paper ballot, if they ask. I urge all voters to demand the right to vote on paper and create an auditable election. There is something fundamentally wrong when voting machines are designed to not provide any physical record of votes. -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
