Well, my oldest Apple IIs are still chugging along 27 years later. I've got
probably 100-150 antique computers and most of them are still working,
barring some capacitors that blew this summer in a couple of Hyperions. As
you say, though, lifetime warranties are meaningless really, with RAM
anyway. No one keeps anything modern long enough to have it fail.  The
problem with old computers would be the ROMs I have heard and there are
people out there saving those in order to continue using the older models.
