Simplest (but probably not cheapest) solution would be to purchase an Airport base 
station and airport cards for you iMac and iBook.  No wires required.  Cable modem 
should hook up to the base station and the iMac and iBook (with airport cards) will be 
able to access it through the air.  There are other less expensive wireless routers 
that would be compatible with the airport cards.

Failing that, the iMac and iBook have built in Ethernet so if you bought just a 
regular wired router you could run cables from it to the other computers.  Ugly I know 
but the wires can be tucked along baseboards and such and made fairly neat and it 
would definitely be lower cost than the wireless solution.
