Hey folks, I am looking for some advice/experiences.
I recently got back into Macs after being on "the dark side" for a year or so. I bought a G3 MT that I am using as my main computer. I am trying to figure out if it is worth upgrading it to a G4 or if I should save my pennies toward a "true" G4. What I currently have is; G3 MT rev A (or is it rev 1) motherboard 300 mhz 384 mb RAM 20 gig IDE HD with 10.2.8 6 gig SCSI HD with 9.2.2 Pioneer DVR-104 updated with latest Mac firmware (I can boot from this drive and I have burned CDs with it, but haven't burned any DVDs with it yet) 2gig SCSI Jaz drive (i plan on removing this due to lack of use) PCI USB 1.1 card PCI 10/100 NIC What I want to do; iMovie (just home movie stuff, moderate use, not all the time) some games (mostly kid friendly stuff) email and web (of course) iTunes Web Development What I am considering; option 1; Add a 366mhz G4 ZIF Add a PCI video card replace the USB card with a USB/Firewire card option 2; Add a 500mhz G4 ZIF Add a PCI video card replace the USB card with a USB/Firewire card option 3; Buy a G4 sawtooth machine I am definitely on a razor thin budget. The 366mhz G4 is only about $80, and the 500mhz is about $140. Would the move from a 300mhz G3 to a 366mhz G4 be worthwhile? Or would it be better to go with the 500mhz G4? I realize that all of the G4 upgrades are still limited because of the system bus speed. Any comments? Any thoughts or comments from folks who have actually upgraded to a G4 in an older G3 would be greatly appreciated. thanks, Kevin Avery -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
