Hi Bruce,

Thanx for your input.

Then you wrote:

I thought so too. I just watched Monsters Inc yesterday
on my stsem,=20
while ripping CD's into iTunes, and saw no such
degradation. While
mine=20= is a G4-450, a G3-300 should surely be able to
do this. Are you
using=20 Apple's DVD player app?

I don't know what you're missing.

To which I reply:

Yes, I installed the Apple DVD-Player from the original
Panther Installer discs using Pacifist. When I tried to
update the Player with the DVD-Player Update from Apple
it no longer worked. So I went back to the original
DVD-Player from the OSX 10.3 installer.

It works, but barely. It's so choppy that watching a film
with some action or panning scenes is not enjoyable at
all.

I'll have to boot into OS9 for watching DVDs then. The
hacked Apple DVD-Player ver. 2.7 works flawlessly but I'd
like to stay in OSX ...

Maybe I'll try a faster CPU. Does the Apple DVD-Player
for OSX benefit from the AltiVec-engine so a G4 would
make sense?

TIA, Jrg.
