definitely repair the disk!  this is the first thing to do after such a crash.  
also, a ups is a
good investment for your data and hardware.  meci.com has some surplused/older 
model units cheap,
i've been very, very happy with the two i bought from them including the 1 KVA 
true sine wave unit
that was made for nec, truly excellent.  they also have some apc units and 
other brands.  for $100
you can protect your hardware and data from powerline abuse, and brownouts are 
very hard on power
supplies as are brief glitches.  i have fairly bad power, i didn't give buying 
a ups a second
thought just for the hardware protection (and convenience, it's big enough for 
the room lights as
well which is very nice!).
