FWIW, I've been running an exposed OS9 server for years (see my sig.) I've got NetPresenz for ftp. plus HotLine and Carrracho. I've also got built-in IP filesharing enabled for local access, plus I use Timbuktu for remote control and fast transfer of big files.
The OS componant has been very stable, the main problem has been with Carracho which locks up after a week or two (mem leak?), requiring a restart (though interestingly Apple filesharing continues to work even while the GUI is frozen!) I really like Carracho, shame its server is the one dark spot. However, while I like that I'm still serving with an obsolete OS, I'd really prefer the robustness of X. I've been meaning to move my server to X, but just haven't gotten fed up enough with Carracho's regular lockups to go through with the considerable hassle of the 'upgrade'. Were I starting from scratch however, I don't think OS 9 would stand much of a chance. dan k ................................. http://macdan.n3.net/ carracho://dankephoto.dhs.org:9700 hotline://dankephoto.dhs.org:9500 ................................. -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
