I forgot one thing before I tried the other ROM. It came from a rev.A logic board. Otherwise, I didn't get the open firmware garbage. After I tried the other ROM, I got the flashing "?", so I put the original ROM back. This time open firmware told me that there were no HFS bootable volumes. It ended up that I had to switch to the other connection on the logic board to even consider running. I have actually put the HD in my 5500/225 and am running just fine, although I could use more RAM (only have 32 MB and am using iTunes 2 while I am writing this). Thanks for all of the suggestions, but I think I will continue to use the 5500 just so I can keep what little sanity I have left, since that one sits idle otherwise.
