Continuing thanks to all for help with this and that.

I'm looking into ways to use analog sources in a Mac. The Mac is a B&W with a G4 processor running 10.2.8 @ 450MHz with 512MB RAM. The Hollywood DV-Bridge seems like a good enough product as I have seen reports of it working with G4s right out of the box using iMovie. As yet I am not much familiar with iMovie or similar apps. like Final Cut. The DV-Bridge does the digitizing and sends it to the Mac. Saves on processing power. My main question is; does iMovie or other apps. allow you see and hear the import without having to record it? In iMovie, in preferences, in advanced, there is a button marked,"video play through to camera." I thought that might be what I was looking for. But then I thought it should be, play through from camera. Besides video editing I am looking for something that will allow other analog a/v equipment to be used through the B&W, (TV tuner, VCR, and most importantly, my son's video game players. We're trying to move all his stuff into his room:-) I'll keep trying to figure it out but could use some advice.

TIA,
        Anand

I use the Miglia Director's Cut-2 video converter box sold by OWC: http://eshop.macsales.com/Search/Search.cfm? Column=Description2&Criteria=Miglia+Director%27s+Cut&x=14&y=10&Manufactu rer=

The DC-2 draws its power from the FireWire cable and thus doesn't need an outside power source. I use it to get analog video into iMovie and Final Cut Express, and then to send edited video back out to VCRs. I also import commercial movies and clean them up for family viewing (the DC-2 can defeat anti-copy schemes that prevent normal VCR copying). Read the reviews of the Miglia vs. the Hollywood DV Bridge. I don't know what the latter costs, but some reviews call the Hollywood converter a "toy" that delivers bad color and has other problems. You get what you pay for.
