Rich had an interesting idea. "By the way, my a/d d/a converter is in my inexpensive Canon zr40 camcorder.
(Later zr models seem to have deleted this feature though other Canon and Sony
camcorders do have it. I don't know which ones.) The quality is excellent.
There are a number of camcorders out there that have onboard real time
digitizers. It might be an economical alternative to a stand alone digitizer
and you get a camcorder too."
However, Clark had a caution, "Caution, when I tried using a Sony camera to record the camera in
real time to the computer's HD it had numerous dropouts. When I
recorded to DV tape first and then played it to the computer it was
okay. This was with a 400MHz G4 tower and I expect that the
processor speed will make a difference."
So Rich, was this a problem you encountered? May I ask what Mac you were using at what speed?
To all, is there a way to observe the feed full screen before recording it? In iMovie what I see takes up about a quarter of the screen. Not too good for editing and even worse when using the Mac as a "digital hub," and plugging other a/v sources into it. Does Final Cut or other apps allow for full screen preview?
