Are you sure that the SCA adapter is a LVD model. There are two types

That's a very good question! I was not aware the adapters differed in that respect but I did suspect that the adapter may not be working correctly since that was the one item I had no way of verifying. The adapter was provided with the drive by the ebay seller... but that doesn't mean it's the right one.

After months of dealing with useless support from Seagate, ATTO and mostly the pompous know-it-all eBay seller that sold me the Cheetah ST118202LC LVD/SE drive (often just plain wrong info. sending me down the wrong troubleshooting path), I must thank John Swanson for providing the very simple inexpensive solution: buy a new SCA 80 to 68 pin adapter ($7.76 shipped from Taiwan, got here fast, too!). All adapters are not equal when it comes to LVD capability. The one provided by the seller would only work on a SCSI 1 bus in my Beige MT.

Seagate told me my drive was gray market OEM and would not work on my home computer. Period.
Wrong!
ATTO told me this was Apple's OEM card and they can't help me (other than providing firmware to try) and insisted it was probably my external termination at the end of the chain.
Wrong!
The eBay seller, despite running all sorts of Macs at his work and selling a variety of Mac replacement/upgrade items was just not helpful, and it was him that provided the wrong adapter. He said my UL2D was not an LVD card.
Wrong!

I was not working on this continously for all these months but a couple hours here, then give up, and try again a week or two later, etc. Persistence and common sense prevailed. No real rush as it was a project which will be my 5 year old daughter's computer.
