it's called a "web beacon", do a google search. yahoo has publicly announced
their desire/plans to
have a "web beacon" on every machine connected to the net.

the implications reach far beyond advertising, considering all of this is
readily available to any 3
letter federal agency, probably without even a court order as companies like
yahoo and ebay
generally hand out all kinds of information based on as little as a faxed
request on official
looking letter head or even a phone call (read the info on the ebay site, they
do not try to hide it
per se, it's just that most people don't bother to read everything or care).
statistical
information is notorious for pointing in all kinds of insane directions. given
the current legal
situation this does represent a serious threat to your civil liberties and
privacy, and a chance,
though remote, of a "flash bang" (more accurately a concussion grenade, which
so overloads the
nervous system that people exposed to one usually lose control of their bowel,
and every other
system, and they can be lethal or cause permanent injury very easily, they are
classified as
"destructive devices" by atf, just like Molotov cocktails) being fired into
your' window. i have
known someone who had this surprise when the cops got the wrong trailer! (yes,
the fabled "they
wanted the one next door" situation, it happens all the time). frankly, it's
really getting hard to
know what is and isn't paranoid. there are people and agencies mad with power
and virtually no
liability, certainly no personal liability for being overly aggressive. not
that this is entirely
new, but it's now more official and widespread which means far more prevalent.
even current
employees of the fbi who've been there for decades say it's ridiculous, and
they are hardly
left-wing conspiracy theory nuts, they are well screened long term federal law
officers, many with
law degrees.

Why is this man in the White House? The majority of Americans did not vote for
him. Why is he there?
And I tell you this morning that he's in the White House because God put him
there for a time such
as this: Lt Gen William Boykin, speaking of G. W. Bush, New York Times, 17
October 2003

God gave
the savior to the German people. We have faith, deep and unshakeable faith,
that he was sent to us
by God to save Germany. Hermann Goering, speaking of Hitler
