I bought a Linksys BEFSR81 (8-Port switch and Cable/DSL Router). It works like a champ. However the setup instructions are really too complicated for Macintosh setup. You can be lead to change too many things which will keep you from connecting to your ISP. Tech support is too used to the Windows mess and is limited help. But aside from that the unit is great and is super compact.

I have used (and love) the Asante (Friendly - their term, not mine) FR3004C, 4 Port Cable/DSL Router. It was easy to set up, but I could not integrate it with a 5 Port Asante FH305 Hub.

I had less luck with a Asante Wireless Router, but it could have been the environment rather than a fault of the unit.

These units were used on Knology.net (cable modem) with a G-4 MDD; G-4 iMac, G-3 Ice iBook (all with 10.2 and 10.3.x) and a Brother HL1670 Laser printer, Brother MFC3820CN Scanner-Fax-Inkjet printer, Imagewriter II (using AsanteTalk Bridge), and a Okidata 810e Laser printer with an occasional hook up HP Pavilion peecee running Windows 95. Some of the cables are 40 feet long, most are 16 feet long.

Hope this helps.
