Neither am I...my current boot drive on my beige is a 120 GB ATA 133 drive, connected via my SIIG ATA133 card. All one volume...
The 8GB limitation only applies to the built-in IDE interface, or an add-in card that is recognized by the system as an IDE interface.
Also, 8GB holds a heck of a lot of apps. Move the /Users directory to another volume, and you've got a lot of space to play with. I moved to my current system because I got a DVD-r/rw, and needed 4gb space free on my boot drive to write disks...I had a lot of apps, and 3.85 GB free still on that 8GB partition.
Moreover, *applications* don't have to reside on the boot drive; they can be put anywhere, including other volumes. I put a symlink to a folder 'More Applications' on another partition, and stored stuff like my Encyclopedia Britannica full install, which is north of a GB all told.
