I have been shopping for an external drive to use as a backup along with Retrospect s/w. Maxtor has a good combination, but are there less costly choices?

If you mean a FW hard drive with a button on it to initate a backup, both seagate and maxtor make 'em, I saw one or the other at Costco the other day for $260.

However, if you forgo the 'pushbutton' idea you can get a FW external drive for $200 for a 250 G drive from OWC. You can also get an enclosure for about $30-$80, and buy a drive with a hefty rebate in many cases bringing the cost to well under $200.
