Hello,

One dealer is offering locally some deals, but no
details, of course. Which G4 desktop is good, bad or
ugly for surfing, word processing, occasional
graphics? I would also like to use an old db-15
monitor (don't ask how old!).

Happy Holidays!
George

As long as you only want to do graphics 'occasionally' then any G4 including the G4 Yikes would be fine. The G4 Yikes is basically a G3 motherboard that apple re-worked to support the G4 processor and when introduced was the low-end of the line. It only supports PCI graphics cards, so is definitely not up to full time graphics intensive work. But because of this limitation, it is not desired and can often be had at a deep discount compared to the G4 AGP based Macs.

As for the old DB-15 monitor, if you end up with a video card that only supports HDB-15 (VGA connector) then check Griffin's <http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/monitor_adapters/> gView adapter and confirm it will support the resolution you need.
