I had a Sonnet Tempo Trio but it was incompatible with my rev. of the G3 for some reason so I sold it. I do have firewire and USB in this computer, and will probably be upgrading some stuff soon.
Research on the internet has located an ACARD AEC-6280M PCI Ultra ATA-133 IDE Adapter (for Powermac)_ from '4onlineshop' for $65, the best price I've seen out there.

OWC sells this exact same card, so I'm presuming it's pretty good.

My ATA card I got from OWC, but it was the SIIG card. (I had the exact problems with the Tempo Trio card you did...I was pissed; I really wanted that to work!) and I've been pleased with it. At the time, the SIIG was on cheaper or on sale. Looking at OWC right now, yeah the SIIG card is a few bucks cheaper. Had Froogle existed at the time I bought (or had I known about it) I'd have likely found someplace like 4Online. They look like all they sell is ACARD stuff.
That said, I've bought from a number of Yahoo stores before, and not had a hassle.
It's not surprising that OWC offers the same card, there are only a few manufacturers that make Mac-compatible cards; in fact, I think only Acard and SIIG. The Sonnet card is a rebranded one or the other.
